KAYLA MAY CHOSEN TO REIGN OVER STATE FAIR
DURING ANNUAL FAIRS AND FESTIVALS CONVENTION

Kayla May of Pendleton County, representing the W.Va. Fourth of July Celebration held in Petersburg, W.Va., was chosen from more than 86 contestants as Miss West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals January 9, wrapping up three days of festivities during the organization’s 78th annual convention. Kayla will represent the organization during the coming year and will reign over the 2010 State Fair of West Virginia.

The pageant was held this year at Charleston’s historic Municipal Auditorium, which provided the audience with a better seating and viewing experience, according to Pageant Director Jean Smith. Other events were held at the Charleston Civic Center.

First runner-up was Blair Goodall representing the Tri-County Fair held in Petersburg, W.Va.; second runner-up was Brittany Alberts representing the W.Va. Pumpkin Festival held in Milton, W.Va.; third runner-up was Kristina Snider representing the W.Va. Three Rivers Festival held in Fairmont, W.Va.; and fourth runner-up was Kelsey Waybright representing the Ripley Fourth of July Celebration held in Ripley, W.Va.

Consisting of nearly 150 member-events throughout the Mountain State, the West Virginia Association of Fairs and Festivals (WVAFF) provides members with informational and networking opportunities. The annual convention includes a trade show and entertainment showcase that assists event representatives in booking activities for their respective events.

Topics of this year’s information seminars included the value of economic impact studies, food safety during events, strategic planning, competitive and attractive exhibits, media relations and the Division of Tourism’s matching grant program

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture sponsored a breakfast for event representatives Saturday morning, and provided a number of speakers for the informational meetings.
