The Logan County Farmers’ Market will host a ‘Pick-In’ during their Grand Reopening Saturday, July 25, from 12 noon - 5 p.m., which will feature live music by “Last Chance Band”, Live Beehive Demonstrations, Jaws! BBQ, product samplings and free children’s activities, among the many scheduled day’s events.
“One of the many initiatives of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture is to offer direct selling opportunities for growers and producers in our state, and the Logan County Farmers’ Market can now provide a year-round venue for vendors to access consumers in southern West Virginia,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.
“The Market also accepts Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program vouchers and Women, Infants and Children’s (WIC) vouchers and serves customers in Boone, Lincoln, Logan, Mingo and Wyoming Counties,” added Commissioner Douglass.
Dan Woodrum, event organizer and assistant director of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s (WVDA) Marketing and Development Division said, “Improvements to the Logan County Farmers’ Market are an example of the Department’s commitment to sustainable agricultural efforts. New signage and conversion of the Market to support year-round business offers unique opportunities to local agribusinesses interested in leasing space at affordable rates and user-friendly terms.”
The improvements to the Market were made possible by an appropriation by the West Virginia Legislature to the WVDA for the improvement of existing state-operated farmers’ markets, as well as development of new farmers’ markets in the state.
Logan County Farmers’ Market Manager Joy Vance also encourages people to come out Saturday ready to shop. “This is not just another open house. I encourage everyone to come out and taste some West Virginia products and enjoy the day. We’ll have plenty of products on the shelves and a variety of locally-grown produce available.”
The event is being cosponsored by the WVDA and Thornhill Auto Group.
The Market is located just off Corridor G near Chapmanville. Market hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. year round. For more information, contact the Logan Farmers’ Market at 304-792-7017.
