AWARDS PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE BEST IN AGRITOURISM MARKETING

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) will sponsor the state’s first-ever agritourism awards program, with the winners to be announced at the 2009 Agritourism Spring Conference in Charles Town, April 26-29.

Categories include best website, best newsletter, best brochure and best rack card. Entries should be submitted on foam board so that all material is visible for judging and display during the Conference.

Deadline for entries is April 10 and entrants do not need to attend the Conference to participate. A panel of experts will critique each entry and provide entrants with a feedback form.

There is no entry fee and multiple entries are allowed, but each must be submitted separately to: West Virginia Department of Agriculture, Marketing and Development Division Awards, 1900 Kanawha Blvd. East, Charleston, WV 25305.

“I encourage anyone involved in agritourism – or anyone who is considering starting an agritourism venture – to attend this outstanding conference,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. “And I also hope to see a lot of entries in this contest. Win or lose, each entrant will get some solid advice on how to improve their marketing and communications efforts.”

Clear plastic covers or envelopes may be attached to the boards to contain or protect entries. A sheet MUST be affixed to the back of each entry listing the contact person, address and phone number, the name of the person submitting the entry, the number of items printed (or unique visits for websites), an explanation of how the publication was used, and the name of the event, attraction or operation.

For more information on the contest, contact WVDA Marketing Specialist Debra Gard at dgard@ag.state.wv.us, or 304-932-7588.

For more information on the Conference, contact WVDA Marketing Specialist Cindy Martel at cmartel@ag.state.wv.us, or 304-558-2210, or visit www.wvagriculture.org.
