SURPRISE THEM THIS CHRISTMAS WITH THE GIFT OF FRESH PRODUCE
CSA Subscription Lets You Buy Now, Eat Later

Looking for the perfect Christmas gift – or a special something to spice up your holiday party? West Virginia Grown products fit the bill and most can easily be ordered by phone, mail or online.

A comprehensive list is available at the West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s (WVDA) website at www.wvagriculture.org. From there, under “Marketing” page, click on “WV Grown Foods and Things” link. The Holiday Gifts Made EZ4U link lists West Virginia agribusinesses that offer customized gift baskets and boxes. The direct link is www.wvagriculture.org/EZ4U.html.

“West Virginia Grown products are as good as you’ll find anywhere. They consistently bring home awards from major food contests and they show people all over the country what West Virginia has to offer,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. “They make great gifts year-round – not just during the holidays.”

Another gift idea with a year-round theme is the purchase of a share in a local Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) organization. CSAs are farms, or groups of farms, that sell investors annual shares in the farm’s harvests. The up-front money gives farmers predictable working capital, and members get a prime selection of meat, eggs and fresh, in-season produce.

Some of the state’s CSAs include:

Monongalia, Preston and Garrett Counties
