EIGHTH ANNUAL FARM FIELD DAY TO BE HELD SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, 2007

Dave Miller’s Mountain Diamond Longhorn Farm in Tunnelton is the site of the Eighth Annual Farm Field Day, Saturday, August 25, 2007, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public although pre-registration is requested for meal planning.

Each field day at the farm has featured new and innovative farming and marketing techniques for farmers engaged in all aspects of agriculture.

This year’s program features a bee beard demonstration by West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) apiarists George Clutter and Paul Poling; grassland dairy production techniques from Tom McConnell and Ben Walsh of the West Virginia University (WVU) Extension Service; goat grazing and usage by Rakesh Chandran and Tom Basden of WVU Extension; Longhorn cattle and niche marketing opportunities from Barb Miller of Mountain Diamond Longhorns; a farmland preservation discussion with Assistant State Conservationist Pat Bowen from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and Dave Miller, with Roger MacMaster, will conduct a draft horse demonstration.

At the conclusion of the program, participants will be treated to a home-cooked BBQ meal. For more information, contact WVDA Marketing Specialist Cindy Martel at 304-469-9738, or WVU Preston County Extension Agent Carrie Stemple at 304-329-1391.
