CONSUMER PROTECTION WORKSHOP OFFERS FAIR ORGANIZERS TOOLS TO FIGHT E. COLI
Charleston, W.Va. – The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) and the State Fair of West Virginia will sponsor a consumer protection workshop for fair and festival organizers at the Blue Ribbon Building on the fairgrounds Saturday, May 19 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.
The workshop will be taught by Dr. Stephen Neel with Technical Solutions International and will focus on protecting visitors from pathogens such as E. coli. Topics will include controlling traffic flow in animal areas, creating proper signage, installing hand-washing areas and specific cleaning protocols.
Participants are encouraged to bring maps of their fairgrounds and any other documents or protocols they may have for review during the sessions.
The WVDA is underwriting $140 of the $160 registration fee for one representative from the first 20 West Virginia Association of Fairs & Festivals who sign up for the workshop. The cost for all other West Virginia representatives and out-of-state participants will be $160. Lunch, breaks and workshop materials are included. The workshop is limited to 50 people and the registration deadline is May 4.
