INWOOD FARMERS' MARKET HOSTING OPEN HOUSE TO KICK OFF BIODIESEL SALES
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture will host an open house at the Inwood Farmers' Market to formally kick off sales of biodiesel fuel Tuesday, June 13, from 2-4 p.m.
The event will feature samplings of West Virginia products and interview opportunities with local agribusiness owner Cam Tabb, who uses biodiesel in his truck fleet, and Musselman High School students Mandy Chapman and Cort Grubb who studied the efficiency of biodiesel in a science fair project that took the grand prize at the regional science fair at Potomac State College. The two will compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair in Indianapolis later this year.
The market began selling the renewable alternative fuel in April, but has not yet publicized or advertised the new product, which burns cleaner and protects engines better than all-petroleum diesel fuel.
Nationally, biodiesel consumption has mushroomed from virtually zero in 1999 to 75 million gallons a year just six years later. The Inwood market sold approximately 1,000 gallons in a month based on word-of-mouth alone.
More information is available at the National Biodiesel Board's website at www.biodiesel.org. For more information on West Virginia agriculture, visit the WVDA's website at www.wvagricuture.org.
Inwood Farmers' Market is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed on Sundays.
