WEST VIRGINIA PRODUCTS MAKE CONVENIENT HOLIDAY GIFTS

Looking for the perfect Christmas gift - or a special something to spice up your holiday party? West Virginia Grown products fit the bill and most can easily be ordered by phone, mail or online.

Visit the West Virginia Department of Agriculture's (WVDA) website at www.wvagriculture.org and click on the Holiday Gifts Made EZ4U link for a listing of West Virginia agribusinesses that offer customized gift baskets and boxes. Contact information for additional West Virginia agribusinesses can be found in our Food and Things brochure on our website under the Marketing tab.

"West Virginia Grown products are as good as you'll find anywhere. They consistently bring home awards from major food contests and they show people all over the country what West Virginia has to offer," said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. "They make great gifts year-round - not just during the holidays."

Commissioner Douglass also noted that products are available at a growing number of retailers throughout the state.

Perhaps the largest selection is available at Capitol Market in downtown Charleston . A large selection of Christmas trees is available at the outdoor market, along with a wide variety of West Virginia Grown products in the indoor market, including gourmet candies, wines, sauces, condiments and jellies. Stop by the Purple Onion to get your handmade custom fruit baskets, Perdue Grocery for your WV Products gift baskets, or visit the WVDA Office at Capitol Market for a $7.00 gift box of fresh West Virginia apples. The indoor market also features two restaurants, and a coffee shop to refresh the weary shopper. Capitol Market hours are Monday-Wednesday from 9 a.m.-7 p.m. , Thursday-Saturday from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. , and Sundays from noon-5 p.m.

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture protects plant, animal and human health through a variety of scientific, regulatory and consumer protection programs, as mandated by state law. The Commissioner of Agriculture is one of six statewide elected officials in West Virginia. Currently, Commissioner Gus R. Douglass is the longest-serving agriculture commissioner in the nation.
