CROP INSURANCE DEADLINE RAPIDLY APPROACHING
Wheat, barley and oat farmers have until September 30 to obtain
insurance on their crops, according to Commissioner of Agriculture
Gus R. Douglass. Current small grains policyholders may also make
changes to existing contracts until September 30.
Price elections for the 2005 crop are $3.50 per bushel for wheat,
$2.35 for barley and $1.60 for oats. The crop revenue coverage (CRC)
plan of insurance is now available in Delaware, Maryland, New York,
North Carolina and West Virginia.
The CRC plan offers guarantees against a drop in the market price.
Insurance premium subsidies have been significantly increased in
recent years, particularly at the higher levels of coverage.
Farmers should contact a local agent for premium quotes and details.
To find an agent, farmers should call their local USDA Farm Service
Agency office or visit www.rma.usda.gov.
