DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE OFFERING FOOD RECALL
PROCEDURES COURSE
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture is sponsoring a Product
Recall Procedures for food producers course on May 19 and
20, 2004. The two-day course will focus on recall plans, recall
procedures and current biosecurity registration procedures implemented
by the Food and Drug Administration and will be held at the Gus
R. Douglass Agricultural Complex at Guthrie.
All food processors are encouraged to attend this up-to-date
training in order to become aware of guidelines, procedures and
assistance available to their food distribution programs,
said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. Increased
awareness of the importance of food security and the processors
implementing safeguards make this training essential.
Facilitated by Dean Cameron Hackney of West Virginia University
and Dr. Susan Sumner of Virginia Tech, the course is open to all
food processors engaged in interstate commerce. Designed to be an
interactive workshop, course participants will go away with a plan
to incorporate into their current operations.
We really encourage small- and medium-sized food processors
to attend to receive updated information about registration procedures
the Food and Drug Administration has implemented regarding biosecurity,
said WVDA Marketing Specialist Kelli Boles. These are companies
that might not necessarily hear about new regulations, so its
especially important for them to get that information somewhere.
Additional information, registration and course costs can be obtained
by contacting West Virginia Department of Agriculture Marketing
Specialist Kellie Boles at 304-558-2210.
Co-sponsors of the course include the West Virginia Small Business
Development Centers, the Davis College of Agriculture, Forestry
and Consumer Sciences at West Virginia University, and Mountain
Resource Conservation & Development, Inc. (Mountain RC&D,
Inc.).
