HUNTINGTON AREA NOW RECEIVING "TODAY IN AGRICULTURE"
BROADCASTS
Today in Agriculture, the monthly educational television
program produced by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture
(WVDA), can now be seen in the Huntington area, a development that
boosts potential viewership to more than a half-million households.
The show is broadcast on the Educational Information Channel (Channel
25) on Adelphia Cable in Cabell, Wayne and Putnam counties, on the
West Virginia Library Television Network (Channel 11) on Charter
Communications in Fayette, Lincoln, Kanawha and Putnam counties,
and on Southern West Virginia Community Colleges channel 4
in the Logan/Williamson area.
A lot more goes on in agriculture in this state than most
people realize, said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.
The Today in Agriculture show opens a window on
a world most West Virginians only come into contact with when they
visit the grocery store. Even in rural West Virginia, very few people
actually have visited a farm to see what goes on.
Although much of the programming focuses on Department-related
activities, such as recent innovations to the Departments
Donated Foods Program, other segments show what other organizations
are doing to support the farm community. Featured topics have included
the Natural Capital Investment Fund, which helps agriculturally
based businesses to obtain development capital to expand their operations,
and the AgrAbility Program, which helps disabled farmers remain
in farming by finding technical and financial solutions to their
individual obstacles.
Today in Agriculture will air in the Huntington area
Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9 p.m.
The show has been broadcast for about the last year in the Charleston
area on Charter channel 11 on Wednesdays at 5 a.m., 11 a.m. and
5 p.m., Thursdays at 5 a.m. and Saturdays at 5 p.m. The viewing
area, which runs from Montgomery to Ona, consists of more than 100,000
households.
The show is also broadcast by Southern West Virginia Community
College in the Logan / Williamson area on local channel 4. That
area has nearly 30,000 viewing households. A schedule of programs
is available at www.southern.wvnet.edu/tv/default.htm.
