STATE COOKING SHOW TO FEATURE AGRICULTURE COMMISSIONER
Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass will join Chef Harvey
Christie at the State Fair of West Virginia for a taping of the
popular West Virginia Public Broadcasting series, West Virginia
Cooks.
Chef Harv will help Commissioner Douglass prepare a
beef recipe using West Virginia-grown petite beef during the taping,
which will take place Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at 2 p.m. in the
Gus R. Douglass Annex building.
Beef has become much leaner and healthful over the past 20
years, and is a nutritious part of any meal. West Virginias
petite beef beef grown completely on grass is particularly
lean, and is quite flavorful. I think consumers will be impressed
with West Virginia petite beef, even if my culinary skills leave
something to be desired, joked Commissioner Douglass.
The public is encouraged to attend the taping, which will also
feature recipes using other West Virginia products.
Many people are not aware of the great West Virginia products
that can be incorporated into a meal, said Department of Agriculture
Marketing and Development Director Jean Smith. Besides the
main ingredients, such as petite beef, there are a variety of West
Virginia-produced sauces, marinades and mixes that can add a distinctive
zip to your meals.
Many of those products will be on sale during the fair at the WVDA
Country Store in the Douglass Annex building, added Smith.
Those attending the taping are also invited to bring their favorite
recipes along with them. Chef Christie will feature some of those
recipes in future shows.
