THIRD ANNUAL FARM FIELD DAY TO BE HELD AT DIAMOND M LONGHORNS

A farm field day will be held at Diamond M Longhorns Farm in Tunnelton, Preston County. The event is being hosted by farm owner Dave Miller, and will take place Saturday, August 23, 2003, from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

The event will have a number of presentations and displays that will provide farmers with information on maximizing production and profit. The event is free and open to the public.

Expected highlights will be a demonstration steer ride by “Woody,” Miller’s tame longhorn steer and, of course, a farm-fresh lunch.

Presentations will include direct marketing tactics by Ed Grose of Montcroft Farms, current animal health issues by West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s State Veterinarian Joe Starcher, D.V.M., West Virginia feedlot operations by Bill Grose, and raising fish in farm ponds by Dr. Ken Semmens of West Virginia University.

Ongoing demonstrations will include wool spinning by the Preston County Spinning Club and Master Gardener information from John Jett.

Buckeye Feed’s Noah Perry will have a display set up throughout the day, and area Tractor Supply Stores will display a new gating system.

For more information, call Kellie Boles at the West Virginia Department of Agriculture’s Marketing & Development Division at 304-558-2210, or Dave Miller of Diamond M Longhorns at 304-568-2322.
