WOOD COUNTY LIVESTOCK MARKET SET TO REOPEN
West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass Wednesday
approved a permit for reopening the former Parkersburg Livestock
Market.
The market - renamed the Mineral Wells Livestock Exchange - will
be operated by Spencer resident Guy Randolph and managed by his
son, Richard. Roger Mitchell will reportedly be the barn manager.
Sales are scheduled for Saturday - horses starting at noon and cattle
starting at 1 p.m.
Everything is in order and the Randolphs are ready to get
the market up and running, said Commissioner Douglass. I
know many of the livestock producers in the area are pleased to
have this market back in operation. It saves them a lot of extra
time and expense when moving their animals.
According to Guy Randolph, the exchange plans to conduct sales
on a weekly basis, a service needed in the area. Ive
been in the cattle industry all my life; cattle is my business.
We intend to make a profit and run this market to publics
benefit, he said.
He predicts operating the market will be challenging. One
person cant do it alone - itll take a group of people,
said Randolph. But he has help from wife, Dorothy, and his son.
Randolph added that a press conference will be held at the Wood
County Courthouse Thursday at 10 a.m.
