BEST OF WEST VIRGINIA ON DISPLAY AT SOUTHERN CHRISTMAS SHOW

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture and the West Virginia Division of Tourism are sponsoring "A Holiday Taste of West Virginia" at the Southern Christmas Show in Charlotte, N.C. to promote the state's people, products and attractions.

The agencies will have a 1,000-square-foot booth at the show and will feature more than 40 of the Mountain State's finest gourmet foods, heritage crafts and tourism destinations. The show runs from Nov. 13-23.

"We at the Department of Agriculture are very excited about our first trip ever to the Southern Christmas Show," said Commissioner Gus R. Douglass. "It's a tremendous opportunity to reach out to our neighbors and show them what a wonderful place West Virginia truly is."

Commissioner of Tourism Betty Carver praised the partnership.

"This opportunity allows us to bring the best of West Virginia, from our wonderful products, crafts and samplings to our hospitality, to an important travel audience. We should see many benefits from the show."

Two dozen agribusinesses will conduct samplings throughout the duration of the show. Others - such as Cabin Creek Quilts and the Preston County Spinners - will give in-booth demonstrations. The booth will be one of the largest at the show and is being built from the Department of Agriculture's "Country Store" at the State Fair of West Virginia.

The booth will also feature a "gift-giving tree" with ornaments sponsored by many of West Virginia's resorts and destinations. Visitors to the booth will have the opportunity to purchase gift certificates to the attractions.

High school students from several West Virginia's vocational programs will demonstrate in the Charlotte Merchandise Mart's Culinary Theater what they have learned from their mentors - chefs from some of the state's best restaurants.

Other West Virginia booth sponsors are the Southern West Virginia Convention and Visitors Bureau, which is host to the annual "Coal Camp Christmas" and Mountain RC&D, Inc.
