CARMICHAEL EQUIPMENT HOSTING GIANT PUMPKIN CARVING
Commissioner Gus R. Douglass announced today that the Great
Pumpkin currently on display at Carmichael Equipment at Merritts
Creek Farms Plaza, will be carved into a giant jack-o-lantern Thursday,
October 30, at noon, by representatives from the West Virginia Department
of Agriculture, WVU Extension Agent John Marra and members of the
W.Va. Pumpkin Festival Board.
The pumpkin, which was the largest entered this year at the W.Va.
Pumpkin Festival in Milton, weighed in at 557 pounds and was grown
by Scott Watring of Aurora, Preston County.
Heavy rains this year caused problems for most growers; however,
that didnt stop Watring. This was his first attempt at taking
home the grand-prize ribbon at the Pumpkin Festival.
Carmichael Equipments $1,025 beat all other bids at the annual
Pumpkin Festival auction. All proceeds from the sale benefit the
Pumpkin Festival Scholarship Fund.
Last year, the record-setting pumpkin weighed 667 pounds and was
grown by Ronald and Sue Boor of Tyler County.
