STATE FARM MUSEUM TO HOST ANNUAL FALL FEST
The West Virginia State Farm Museum near Point Pleasant will hold
its annual Fall Festival October 5-6, beginning at 9 a.m. each morning.
In addition to buildings full of antique farm equipment and implements,
the Farm Museum contains numerous historical buildings that have
been rescued from their original sites and reassembled on the Farm
Museum grounds. Many, such as the newspaper office and doctors
office, contain a wide variety of period equipment that has been
salvaged and restored to their original condition.
Others, such as the log church and the blacksmith shop, remain
in regular use. Both of those buildings will be featured during
the Fall Fest. Church services will be held Sunday morning in the
log church and blacksmithing demonstrations will be given throughout
the weekend. Spinning and weaving will also be demonstrated on a
variety of wheels and looms.
Other attractions on tap for the weekend include a steam and gas
engine show, a CEOS quilt show, an antique bottle show and a tractor
show on Saturday.
Visitors are bound to get hungry seeing all the attractions, so
the Fall Festival will also include apple butter and cider, sorghum,
homemade soup and a pig and corn roast all prepared fresh
on-site! The country kitchen restaurant and store will also be open
if you cant wait for an old-fashioned dinner.
Admission to the Festival is free. Campsites with water and electric
hookups (no sewer) are available for $10 a night. The Museum is
located four miles north of Point Pleasant on Fairgrounds Road,
just off WV Route 62. Look for the signs. For more information,
call 675-5737.
The West Virginia State Farm Museum is a partnership between a
private board of directors and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture
(WVDA), which employs two full-time employees to manage the museum.
Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass is an ex-officio member
of the Farm Museum Board. Nearly all of the buildings and artifacts
have been donated by individual, families or estates.
