STATE FFA CONVENTION BRING 800 WV STUDENTS TO RIPLEY

The 74th Annual West Virginia State Future Farmers of America (FFA) Convention and Leadership Conference will take place July 10-13, 2002, Wednesday through Saturday at Cedar Lakes Conference Center in Ripley, W.Va. Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday and the Convention will end Saturday at noon.

Since 1928, the West Virginia FFA Association has enriched the lives of students through agricultural education. More than 800 West Virginia FFA members plan to attend this year’s Convention.

“Agricultural education serves as the model for many other educational programs,“ said Keith Burdette, West Virginia FFA Executive Secretary. “A challenging curriculum with numerous opportunities for experimental learning offers students a wealth of knowledge. But it is the FFA organization which makes our offering unique from any other.”

The Convention is an exceptional educational event, which includes hands-on academic and career competitions, leadership workshops, and presentations by top West Virginia industry professionals, including Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass and Bob Evans, company founder of the Bob Evans restaurant chain.

FFA is a national youth organization with more than a half million members across the nation. The members are preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture with 7,312 local chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. FFA strives to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
