DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE FEATURING EXOTIC ANIMALS, HONEYBEE
BEARDS AT STATE FAIR
The West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) exhibit at the
2002 State Fair of West Virginia will include many new attractions,
along with some time-tested favorites.
New this year will be an exotic animal display the first two days
of the Fair, August 9-10, including goats, llamas and longhaired
rabbits. On Thursday, August 15, a miniature colt and its mother
will be on display. Both displays will be located adjacent to the
Gus R. Douglass Annex Building.
Throughout the Fair, a gigantic hay man will provide
visitors with a great backdrop for their candid photographs and
a convenient landmark for meeting up with friends and relatives.
State Apiarist George Clutter will give bee beard demonstrations
for visitors. Dates and times have not yet been finalized. Check
the daily schedule, or stop by the Douglass Annex for more information.
While youre at the Douglass Annex, dont forgot to pick
up a few items from the WVDA Country Store, a longtime favorite
with visitors to the Fair. The Country Store will feature a wide
variety of W.Va. Grown products to take home and enjoy.
Also popular are the informational displays developed by WVDA.
This years displays will include: homeland security/biosecurity,
the Census of Agriculture, risk management on the farm, invasive
insects and coyote predation prevention efforts.
Other exhibitors scheduled to share space in the Douglass Annex
are the W.Va. Beef Council, W.Va. Farm Bureau, USDA Farm Service
Agency and the W.Va. Forestry Association.
