W.VA. GROWN FOOD & WINE EXPO THIS WEEKEND

The “W.Va. Grown Food & Wine Expo” will be this weekend at Coonskin Park at the Foutch Clubhouse. West Virginia food and wine producers will have samples, information and products available for professional purchasing agents Friday from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and Coonskin will host a VIP reception from 3 p.m.-5 p.m. The public is invited to attend Saturday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

The event is sponsored by the West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) and the Kanawha County Parks and Recreation Commission. It will give a wide variety of West Virginia food and wine producers the chance to meet with food and beverage retailers, restaurant operators, chefs, purchasing agents and distributors.

“West Virginia agribusiness adds more than $100 million a year to the state’s economy,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass. “Agribusiness is important because it adds tremendous value to agricultural products, creating economic development possibilities for West Virginia businesses that are owned and operated by West Virginians.”

WVDA’s Marketing and Development Division frequently conducts “Taste of West Virginia” receptions throughout the Mountain State to help build demand for West Virginia products. WVDA also helps existing businesses with expansion efforts through a low-interest loan fund.

Businesses scheduled to exhibit their products include:
Fisher Ridge Winery, Forks of Cheat Winery, Daniel Vineyards, Kirkwood Winery, Duck’s (specialty condiments), West Virginia Distilling (spirits), Spring Creek Natural Foods (tofu and soy), The Shape Shop (low-fat desserts), DeFluri’s Fine Chocolates, Tasty Blend Foods (biscuits, cornbread), Dark Hollow Foods (meatball mix, sauce, drink mixes), Brunetti’s Bakery, Sugar Creek Specialty Foods (salad dressings, jams), Three Little Pigs of W.Va., Inc. (barbecue sauce), Fire Creek Salsa, Susan Kay Candy Company, West Virginia Aqua (Arctic Char), High Appalachian (trout), Mountain Mixes (pancakes, muffins), K Mac Mills (cornmeal, buckwheat pancakes), Figaretti Manufacturing & Distribution (spaghetti sauce), Up The Creek (pepper mustard) and Thistledew Farm (honey products).
