GIANT PUMPKIN TO BE CARVED
The Great Pumpkin, currently on display at the Capitol
Market, will be carved into a giant jack-o-lantern Wednesday, October
30, 2002, at 1 p.m. by Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass,
Deputy Commissioner of Agriculture Janet Fisher, Extension Agent
John Marra and members of the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival Board
of Directors.
The 667-pound monster pumpkin set a weight record at the W.Va.
Pumpkin Festival, held each year in Milton. The pumpkin was grown
by Ronald and Sue Boor of Sistersville, who broke their own record.
Marvin Butch Edwards, a vendor at the Capitol Market,
outbid other participants in the Pumpkin Festival auction. Proceeds
benefit the W.Va. Pumpkin Festival Scholarship Fund.
