COMMISSIONER OF AGRICULTURE GUS R. DOUGLASS WARNS FARMERS TO
REDOUBLE FOREIGN ANIMAL DISEASE VIGILANCE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 17, 2001
CHARLESTON, WV Tuesdays terrorist acts should
be an alert for farmers and others in the livestock industry to
redouble their vigilance for infectious foreign animal diseases
(FADs), according to West Virginia Commissioner of Agriculture Gus
R. Douglass.
I urge all Americans to join the world agricultural community
in the fight against infectious animal diseases. Farmers should
be especially vigilant for suspicious human activity around their
property, and should check their animals for any symptoms of disease
on a daily basis. Any suspected disease should be treated as an
actual case until proven otherwise, said Commissioner Douglass.
