2001 WEST VIRGINIA AGRICULTURAL STATISTICS BULLETIN AVAILABLE ONLINE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 17, 2001

CHARLESTON, WV — The 2001 West Virginia Agricultural Statistics Bulletin is now available online at www.nass.usda.gov/wv/. Click “Releases and Publications,” then scroll down the page and click “Table of Contents.” The Bulletin contains the most up-to-date production and financial statistics available. Reports in the Bulletin detail a variety of data about every aspect of agriculture in West Virginia.
“I applaud State Statistician Dale King and his staff at the West Virginia Agricultural Statistics Service (WVASS) for the superb job they do keeping track of West Virginia’s agricultural output,” said Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.

“It is important that we are mindful of the condition of agriculture in our state and nation so we can plan for the future and allocate our resources in the best possible way,” Commissioner Douglass continued.
Chapters contained in the Bulletin include field crops, forage, fruit, livestock, dairy, poultry, honey and fertilizer use. Categories include a ten-year breakdown of statistics, and also includes information on an individual county basis.

The Bulletin is compiled through the voluntary reports of farmers and agribusinesses throughout the Mountain State, including weather and crop reports conducted by WVU Extension Service personnel.

“I would like to personally thank our agricultural producers and cooperators who faithfully respond to our questionnaires, the agribusinesses who provide basic information, and our dedicated staff that compiles, analyzes and summarizes this data for our very important industry,” said King.

The WVASS is a cooperative function of the West Virginia Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.
