DIRECT MARKETERS TO GET INSIDE STORY ABOUT AGRICULTURE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 14, 2001
CHARLESTON, WV The West Virginia Direct Marketing
Association (WVDMA) will conduct its annual Fall Tour Tuesday, September
11, 2001, in Charleston. The Tour will include visits to the Capitol
Farmers Market, Halfway Farmers Market in Milton and
Guthrie Agricultural Center, just north of Charleston.
According to WVDMA President Chris Welshans, this tour will focus
on ways agricultural producers can get their products in the hands
of consumers. Thats what people are interested in right
now, said Welshans, citing bumper crops for many gardeners
this year. In the past, our Tour has looked at various value-added
agricultural operations in the state and the ways they grow and
manufacture their products. This Tour will let them meet face-to-face
with local retailers.
The group will also tour the Guthrie Agriculture Center, home of
the West Virginia Department of Agriculture. So many members
have heard about Guthrie for so many years from our agricultural
representatives, but they really dont know all the things
that go on there, added Welshans.
Cost of the tour is $20 for WVDMA members and includes lunch, snacks
and bus transportation from Capitol Market to the other sites. Cost
is $35 for non-members and includes a one-year membership in the
organization. Pre-registration is required, although the registration
fee can be paid the day of the tour. For more information or to
register, call Welshans at 304/527-2030, or Bill Aiken, West Virginia
Farm Bureau, at 304/472-2080, ext. 22.
