Exhibitors flocking to Inwood Farmers Market Spring Celebration
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE May 9, 2001
INWOOD Three more West Virginia agribusinesses have been added to the Inwood Farmers Markets "Spring Celebration" open house tomorrow.
Along with West Virginia product-stuffed mini-omelets, the "Taste of West Virginia" will feature a wide variety of products from Mountain Laurel Marketing, buffalo tenderloin and chili from North American Provisioners, Inc., and the unveiling of a new beverage from Gourmet Central.
Visitors are invited to put their culinary creativity to the test Friday from 10 a.m. noon by cooking their own personal omelet and filling it with great West Virginia products. On Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. 1 p.m., visitors are invited to take "A Taste of West Virginia" by sampling some of the states "homemade" products. Both events are free, and Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass is expected to attend the festivities Friday.
"Farmers markets are an integral part of West Virginias agricultural economy," said Commissioner Douglass. "They provide an excellent outlet for our value-added agribusiness products and our delicious West Virginia-grown produce. Those not familiar with our farmers markets should know that they can put together the ingredients for a fresh, delicious and nutritious meal in about 15 minutes."
According to Inwood Farmers Market Acting Manager Faye Roberts, The Inwood Market carries hundreds of West Virginia products, as do the other farmers markets throughout the state.
"We have it all," she said. "Salsa, barbecue sauce, canned peppers, sauces, jams, jellies. We have West Virginia wine from Harpers Ferry to Charleston and everywhere in between. We carry so many West Virginia products, I dont know how many well have for the open house way over 100, at least."
The Inwood Farmers Market is currently operating under its summer hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. 2 p.m. For more information, call Roberts at 304/229-5011.
