FREE MINI-OMELETS HIGHLIGHT INWOOD FARMERS’ MARKET OPEN HOUSE

For Immediate Release May 4, 2001

INWOOD, WV — Inwood Farmers’ Market will be cooking up mini-omelets stuffed with West Virginia products and giving visitors "A Taste of West Virginia" this weekend as part of its "Spring Celebration" open house.

Visitors are invited to put their culinary creativity to the test Friday, May 11, from 10 a.m. – noon by cooking their own personal mini-omelet and filling it with great West Virginia food products. On Saturday, May 12, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., visitors are invited to take "A Taste of West Virginia" by sampling some of the state’s "homemade" agribusiness products. Both events are free to the public and Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass will be attending the festivities Friday.

"Farmers’ markets are an integral part of West Virginia’s agricultural economy," said Commissioner Douglass. "They provide an excellent outlet for our value-added agribusiness products and our delicious West Virginia-grown produce. Those not familiar with our farmers’ markets should know that they can put together the ingredients for a fresh, delicious and nutritious meal in about 15 minutes."

According to Inwood Farmers’ Market Acting Manager Faye Roberts, the Inwood Market carries hundreds of West Virginia products, as do the other farmers’ markets throughout the state.

"We have it all," she said. "Salsa, barbecue sauce, canned peppers, sauces, jams, jellies. We have West Virginia wine from Harpers Ferry to Charleston – and everywhere in between."

The Inwood Farmers' Market is currently operating under its summer hours: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and Saturdays, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more information about the Market, contact Faye Roberts at 304/229-5011.
