GRAND OPENING OF THE NEW GUS R. DOUGLASS ANNEX SET FOR AUGUST 15, 2000 DURING THE STATE FAIR OF WEST VIRGINIA

LEWISBURG, W.Va. — As a much-needed addition to the State fairgrounds, the State Fair of West Virginia and the West Virginia Department of Agriculture (WVDA) will host the grand opening of the new Gus R. Douglass Annex on Tuesday, August 15, 2000. The event will occur at 12:30 p.m. in front of the building.

State Fair President Dr. John Wilson sees the Annex as a clear indicator of the State Fair's commitment to farming. "Since the beginning of the State Fair, agriculture has always been our focus. This new structure will be used to host many displays relating to agriculture, forestry and natural resources. It will also contain offices for the WVDA and the West Virginia State Police. We chose to name the building after Agriculture Commissioner Gus R. Douglass in honor of  his many years of service to the State Fair's Board of Directors and his longtime support of West Virginia's agriculture."

Agriculture Commissioner Gus R. Douglass thanks the State Fair for this great honor. "When the plans for this building were announced last year, I was surprised when the building was to be named after me. This is the first time in my career that I have received such an honor. On behalf of my family and myself, we thank the State Fair for this great privilege, and I pledge my continued support of this entertaining and educational event that has become a family tradition in the Mountain State."

Refreshments will be served after the brief ceremony.

For more information, contact Bill Bissett, Communications Chief for the WVDA, 304/558-2201, or by pager 304/540-2950.
