WEIRTON, W.VA. -- Agriculture Commissioner Gus R. Douglass will host "A
Taste of West Virginia" reception and food sampling on December 9, 1999, at
the Serbian American Center in Weirton, West Virginia. From 5-7 p.m.,
visitors will be able to sample products from 19 West Virginia companies
that are participants in the West Virginia Grown Program (see attached
list).
Commissioner Douglass sees the reception as a great opportunity for State
food businesses. "As Agriculture Commissioner, I believe that helping
create business opportunities for West Virginians is a form of economic
development that will grow as these cottage industries expand. It's a long
process to see a product develop from a home recipe to the supermarket
shelf, but my staff at the West Virginia Department of Agriculture is
dedicated to helping make this process easier for new food businesses. From
the local farmers' market to international export, our food producers
continue to grow and bring income and new jobs into the Mountain State."
Governor Cecil H. Underwood, a supporter of the West Virginia Grown
Program, will be in attendance with local community leaders.
