Quality Assurance / Quality Control (QA/QC)

The Environmental Programs Section maintains a very rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) Program. The purpose of this program is to ensure the production of accurate data in both the laboratory and the field, and to also promote detailed record keeping on everyday aspects of testing and maintenance of equipment.

Aspects of the program include the following: A mandatory annual inspection of the testing facility by the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP). This is to ensure that all instrumentation and testing procedures fall within compliance of WVDEP’s specifications. Another aspect is the completion of performance evaluation testing samples. These samples are provided by Analytical Products Group (APG) with the purpose of monitoring the laboratories proficiency in all testing parameters. Final aspects of the QA/QC Program include records on maintenance of laboratory and field equipment, calibration of laboratory and field equipment, duplicate sample analysis, analysis of known standards, field blank analysis, trip blank analysis, spiked sample analysis.
