As a livestock producer, your animals are your most valuable resource. Careful breeding, precise feeding, attentive handling, and an effective vaccination program help safeguard the health of your animals and this will ultimately contribute to a safe and wholesome food supply.
Premise registration, the foundation of the voluntary National Animal Identification System (NAIS), is another valuable tool to include in your overall animal health management program. NAIS is a modern streamlined information system that helps producers and animal health officials respond quickly and effectively to disease outbreaks or animal health events in the United States.
The NAIS program, a voluntary State-Federal-Industry partnership, can help the producers in West Virginia protect livestock and poultry from the spread of disease, and increase the marketability of their animals. NAIS promotes consumer confidence in our food supply, retaining access to domestic and foreign markets.
The WVDA is not requiring your participation in this program.
Please fill out the West Virginia Premise ID Form at the top right column of this webpage or call us at 1-3O4-558-2214 if you wish to participate by registering your premise with the WVDA.
West Virginia has now registered 8,993 premises. |
