 NATIONAL
FARMERS' MARKET WEEK
August 2-8, 2009

West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin and Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass challenged West Virginia residents to eat at least one meal made entirely of West Virginia Grown products on Wednesday, August 5. This “Eat Local Day” highlighted National Farmers’ Market Week August 2-8, noted Commissioner of Agriculture Gus R. Douglass.

“Experts estimate that West Virginians collectively spend $6.8 billion a year on food, and the overwhelming majority of those dollars wind up on the books of an out-of-state corporation,” said Commissioner Douglass. “If every West Eat Local Poster Virginian spent their food dollars for just one day on West Virginia products, it would result in $18 million extra dollars circulating in the West Virginia economy.”
